Climate Metagenomics

Finally getting around to working on the next phase of climate/metagenomics, which started with the PLoS publication of the Global Ocean Sampling dataset which I wrote about here last year. Climatology and remote sensing can greatly enhance the definition of the biomes where each of the samples were collected, extending the somewhat static definitions of these niches that has been defined in previous studies. The initial peek into the ocean genome will be expanded when the genomes are put into their proper climatological and spatial context. The data is there - it is now open for more comprehensive interpretation, and as a result, we can ask better questions to guide future research. Feel free to email me if you'd like to discuss further.
