First Commercial Cellulosic Ethanol Plant to Begin Production in 2008

Came across this blog today. I am a cautious optimist when it comes to cellulosic. Yes, it makes sense to utilize biomass waste that otherwise contains marginal commercial value and exploit for energy purposes, but calling cellulosic 'the great green hope' is a bit premature. Many projects now under the cellulosic rubric are actually small %waste and large% product (ie. crops for fuel), which in the end may or may not even carry a net positive energy benefit. Further, when it comes to biofuels in general, many of these grand ideas are forgetting a very important part of the equation in order to make the idea successful in the long term: water.
