Stumbled across this Free GeoTools site today, while poking around science archives section of the Google Earth blog. Being accustomed to the high fees associated with most commercial off-the-shelf image processing and GIS software, I was at first skeptical of the value of any of the free tools that might be discussed. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are some great applications out there for free or almost free that are quite powerful, and certainly capable of supporting research. Not only does this site poing out some good resources for software, but also low cost imagery as well.
