Butanol from Beets

BP Biofuels is putting some emphasis on the 'non-ethanol' portion of the biofuels sector. As this Technology Review article notes, this BP subsidiary is pushing butanol, derived from either corn starch or sugar beets. If it can be scaled to the point where the economics are favorable, the transition to a butanol economy is much more feasible given the current energy infrastructure.
