Interesting job posting for a Bioinformatics Scientist based in the DC area with Global Science & Technology Inc. See below:

Bioinformatics Scientist

Location:Washington, DC
Employment Type:Full Time
Description:Global Science & Technology, Inc., a fast growing scientific and high technology firm, is seeking an experienced Bioinformatics Scientist to support a new NASA program. Position will be based at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.

Project Description:
Recent NASA life sciences projects are producing an inordinate amount of omics data, necessitating a method for organizing and storing the data. NASA intends to provide the data publically and will be developing the information technology platforms for this purpose. The data includes transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.

Position Summary:
The Bioinformatics Scientist is expected to participate in the design and development of the database for NASA Bioinformatics. This includes design and development of data manipulation, analysis, and visualization tools. The Scientist will also be acting as a liaison between the technical team handling implementation and the advisory board tasked with designing the system requirements.
Duties:Primary Duties:
•Develop and standardize an approach from data collection to data output and utilization for the NASA Space Life and Physical Sciences programs.
•Analyze existing bioinformatics systems and provide recommendations to the NASA as to what will and will not work for NASA, what currently exists that can be built upon, and what needs to be developed specific for NASA.
•Collaborate with NASA scientists and software engineers in the development and/or adaptation of existing Bioinformatics software.
•Provide statistical and computational tools for biologically based activities such as genetic analysis, measurement of gene expression, and gene function determination
•Develop an innovative back-end and user interface that will facilitate the organizing and storing of data so that it is highly accessible and meaningfully searchable across omics channels
•Keep abreast of new bioinformatics tools and software by reading scientific literature and attending professional conferences.
Qualifications:Basic Qualifications/Skills Required:
•Masters or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field required. Degree must include research related to Bioinformatics (such as analysis of sequence data, RNAseq, microarrays, metabolomics, SNPs, image data, proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms, statistical methods, or scientific software); OR if degree with no Bioinformatics research, then two (2) or more years of pre-or postdoctoral experience in Bioinformatics research.
•Experience building, designing, maintaining, and utilizing large bioinformatics databases/datasets.
•Experience with common open-source Bioinformatics software and libraries.
•Must be detail-oriented and capable of collecting and analyzing large amounts of data.
