In the 2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index, Rutgers meteorology/atmospheric sciences was ranked 5th in the nation, and the overall environmental science program (where meteorology and climatology are housed) ranked 6th. There are many ways to rank PhD programs, but I am partial to this one as it is a valid statistical measure of research productivity.
