Ocean conditions not helping CA fires

Hopefully, firefighters will get some relief over the next day or two with a weakening of the Santa Ana winds, and an increase in westerlies bringing available moisture from the ocean to inland locations. But the ocean isn't cooperating as nicely as it could be. High pressure has been dominant, blocking moisture from migrating in from the west (see this satellite image). Further, La Nina conditions have kept Pacific Ocean temps cool, limiting the availability of evaporative moisture, as seen in this NOAA SST weekly anomaly map.
